Great food and lovely atmosphere with great service. We are definitely coming back. Overall great experience. The only thing that could improve is waiting times β it was really busy, so I guess that caused it. Also, I had to remind the staff that I ordered a coffee.

Lovely building beautifully decorated, nice attentive staff and most importantly exquisite food. Every course was sensational. Beautifully presented and very creative. A complete delight to eat. I had two desserts as I couldnβt decide which one to choose and both were incredible. It was not cheap, but considering the quality of the food was perfectly reasonable. We also had 3 spritzers and soft drinks too which considerably added to the overall cost. For a 3 course meal you are probably talking around Β£40-50 per person for the food. If you want 2 desserts each then this will obviously cost more!!!
A friend and I visited for a belated 30th birthday celebration and to look at the recently refurbished restaurant. The ambience was good, low level lighting and candles to create a calm, cosy feel. The flowers hanging from the ceiling felt pretty against the glass windows but not too over the top. The restaurant was quiet when we arrived and there was birthday card left on the table which was a nice touch. Waitresses were efficient and polite when taking our orders but on the whole left us to our evening. Food service was quick with food presented well. I had the Greek pizza with a side of coleslaw, both of which were to a standard I would expect at the Ticked Trout, but I didnβt think the feta and olives made it much different to a cheese pizza. My friend had fish and chips, again cooked well and tasted good, although perhaps too many chips. For desert we had the chocolate brownie and sticky toffee pudding both of which were a good size and delicious. We moved to the relaxing bar area after for another drink, again which felt cosy and not overcrowded. Overall we had a pleasant evening, nothing to complain about but nothing that felt outstanding. However when we went to pay the bill there was a service charge which the waitress told us about when handing us the receipt. I feel that this was very presumptuous and actually quite rude to assume that we wanted to leave a tip and it should be up to the customers discretion how much. I did not feel that any member of staff had gone above and beyond with their service to warrant a service charge. For me, the assumption that we would pay a service charge, and at such a high percent has actually now changed my perception of the night, to the point that I probably wonβt visit again any time soon especially as it felt it would be frowned upon if the charge was taken off.
Had a delicious meal here, every dish we had was exceptional with a fantastic depth of flavour. Service was great, the chef came over to check on us after our meal. The bar area was relaxed and cosy.
This is a relaxed yet feels a very special place to eat. I've been a few times and it's never failed to deliver. The food is amazing quality and the taste is fabulous. Highly recommend
Simply stunning food and fantastic service. The whole experience was amazing and well worth the trip from Kent. The pork in particular was a highlight, but everything was so good it only just stood above. Have the pie, have the pork - just order as much as you can fit in! Kudos especially to the young pastry chef who made the Paris Brest. Stunning work. We will be back. Thank you.
Superb - one of the best meals weβve had - food unique and carefully put together dishes with excellent service and a great decor and atmosphere in bar and restaurant- Chris the chef even came out to check we were all enjoying it - great personal touch - would highly recommend !! We thought good value too at around Β£60 a head with wine - for amazing quality - highlight scotch egg starter and Pork dish - daughter loved the Brownie but we werenβt offered any !!
The Ticked Trout is, without question, one of my absolute favourite places to eat. Every visit feels like a treat β relaxed, welcoming, and consistently excellent. We were tucked into a cosy corner and enjoyed an incredible meal, complemented by the chance to chat with the owners and some wonderfully knowledgeable staff about the food and wine. Their passion really shines through. When we asked for something sweet to go with our cheeseboard, we given a perfectly sized plate of petit fours β such thoughtful touches make all the difference. All in all, The Ticked Trout always delivers: great food, great service, and a genuinely relaxed atmosphere. Weβd highly recommend it to anyone looking for an exceptional dining experience in Derbyshire.
